Located in Mozambique’s Quirimbas National Park, Vamizi Island is privately owned, offering guests a 12km long strip of island all to themselves. The land is home to samango monkeys and over a hundred species of tropical bird, while the sea boasts a diverse range of reef fish, shark, dolphins and whales. The gap is bridged by nesting turtles.
If that wasn’t enough, the lodge offers five star luxury in ‘castaway chic’. With the entire island to themselves, Vamizi have built spacious villas well spread-out, giving guests as much privacy as they desire. Villas come with all standard luxuries, plus a sun deck.
The island boasts two restaurants and a bar, serving fresh seafood and other tropical fare, complemented by cocktails and fine wines. However, meals are by no means reserved for a fixed venue, and can take place in your villa or on the beach.
With the vast coastline at your disposal, it’s obvious that water based activities are on the menu. Top of the list is the diving, said to be truly world class. Fishing is also an option, as are kayak and dhow trips. Staying on land might involve a trail into the bush for some monkey or bird watching.
If relaxing on the beach is too energetic, then there’s always the spa. Vamizi has its own yoga teacher, and other healing disciplines are also on offer. A range of beauty therapies and massage treatments are available too.
