The largest island of a well-known group in the Gulf of Thailand, Ko Samui is home to another high quality Four Seasons resort, and also the pier from which Leonardo di Caprio left the island for The Beach.
Rooms at the Four Seasons extend up the hillside from the beach, all in private villas. The views are stunning, with the Gulf of Thailand occupying the foreground, and the famous Ko Pha Ngan on the horizon. Sunsets in this part of the world are always a glorious affair.
The sunsets are also visible from the resort's two restaurants - one on the hillside which serves Thai and Italian cuisine; one by the beach serving seafood. There is also a beach bar offering a range of cocktails.
Activities on offer include a range of land and watersports, but what really stand out are the excursions. Among other things, guests can go elephant trekking to the centre of the island; they can take boats to Pha Ngan or Ko Ma and explore these other islands; they can visit remote Buddhist Wats; explore Angthong Marine Park; and they can visit waterfalls on Samui.
If these all sound too active, then there's always the spa, complete with a bespoke Yoga pavilion.
