Six Senses, Samui

Six Senses is rather a large presence on the Thai resort scene, managing no fewer than six resorts across the country, all to a high standard. Ko Samui is its branch in the Gulf of Thailand's well-known island group, which includes party destination Ko Pha Ngan and diving hotspot Ko Tao, both a short journey from Samui. Samui itself, however, has more than enough to keep you occupied.

66 villas make up the fine range of accommodations available, with 52 of them boasting private infinity pools. In addition, expect first class service, tasteful decorations and all your luxury needs met.

The resort prides itself on its claim of serving the best Thai food on Ko Samui, and putting this claim to the test is essential. Otherwise, enjoy its other restaurant, which specialises in modern Asian cuisine. Both restaurants have a bar attatched, and there is also a wine cellar boasting 300 of the world's best wines for the guests to choose from.

The resort provides plenty of things to do on-site, with its very own water sports centre, its own spa, pool, gym, library, wine tasting sessions and cooking classes.

But not seeing other islands or other parts of Samui would be a shame, and the resort is only too happy to arrange excursions around the Gulf of Thailand, mountain bike trips past Samui's coconut groves and rice paddies, and much, much more.
