Conrad Maldives Rangali Island

The Conrad Maldives is split between a pair of private islands on a Maldivian atoll. Although a similar description can be given to a plethora of stunning Indian Ocean resorts, this one stands out - it has been awarded the title of 'Best Hotel in the World' twice, on top of many more 'Best Resort' awards.

Why? Starting with accommodation, guests can choose villas on the beach, or villas over the lagoon. There's a variety of different grades, but all are wonderfully decorated with a delicate, natural and Maldivian style, and all are spacious, and above all, comfortable.

Where the resort really stands out is for its gourmand visitors. A total of nine bars and restaurants are found on-site, and guests can choose a variety of fine food from around the world, including a speciality Japanese restaurant, a wine cellar restaurant, and a cheese and wine bar offering the world's best cheeses and wines. Then, there's the small matter of the world's first all-glass underwater restaurant, allowing guests to dine surrounded by the life of the reef.

To match the food, leisure is also taken seriously at Rangali, and there is a two-storey gym offering a range of health regimes and fitness techniques. A fully-equipped spa is also available, as are luxury shopping outlets. More energetic activities are easily organised, and these can include diving, running and other watersports.
